Lagos Rapid Response Team (RRS) officers located a 2014 Nissan Altima on Allen Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos, which had been abandoned by a drunk driver since late Saturday night.

The driver, Samuel Lawal, 43, a resident of the Magodo estate, abandoned his boss' vehicle on Allen Avenue after getting drunk at a shrine in Fira Saturday night, July 30.

Initial investigations revealed that Laval used the car to celebrate around the Fira shrine in Ikeja after he delivered his boss, whose name was unknown, to his residence at Magodo Phase 1.

It was also noted that the suspect woke up on Sunday morning with the car keys in his pocket and did not know where he had parked the car.

According to his statement to the police: "I tried to find the car. I made my way back to the African shrine to see if I had left the car there. All attempts to recover the car proved futile. No way, I can only lie to the boss and say that I was robbed and the car was driven away."

The owner, who did not give his name, revealed that while he hired Lawal about four months ago, he was never dishonest or cunning, adding that he was a hardworking driver.

The bewildered boss decided to notify the RRS after the driver was unable to go to work on Sunday.

The driver was taken away for questioning and the vehicle was tracked to Allen Avenue, where it was found with side glasses down with a bottle of dry gin in the driver's seat.

The driver and vehicle were released.
