Man who dies after drinking a full 35% bottle in two minutes wins £10 in South African liquor store challenge (video)
A man has died after winning a £10 bet at a liquor store in South Africa after drinking an entire bottle of spirits in just two minutes.
The local resident, who asked not to be named, visited the store in Mashamba village in Limpopo province and took part in the challenge of who can finish a bottle the fastest. He drank the entire bottle at 35% before going down.
The man, aged between 25 and 30, fell to the ground and was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.
The prize money for the drinking contest is R200 cash, or about £10.
An investigation into his death has been launched.
Limpopo police spokesman Brig Motrafera Mohapello said: "In Watervale, just outside Louise Trichat, police had an apparent binge drinking at a local liquor store in the village of Mashuba. Action was taken after the incident, what activities the patrons allegedly participated in there. They participated, and an investigation called a drinking contest was launched.
“The winner who can use a full bottle of Jägermeister within a certain period of time will receive R200 in cash.
"One of them immediately collapsed and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead."
